Project Korea, give a Scout the experience of a lifetime!

The 25th World Scout Jamboree will be held at the Saemangeumin. Republic of Korea from 1 to 12 August 2023 under the theme “Draw your Dream!”

As you know, the World Scout Jamboree takes place every 4 years. Only Scouts between the ages of 14 and 18 may attend.

This means that a Scout only gets one chance to attend a World Jamboree as a Scout.

How about helping 9 Scouts & 1 adult experience it too

The South African contingent – will leave on 24 July 2023 and return on 13 August 2023.

Khaya about the 24WSJ in the USA

In a bid to further expand the horizons of the participating Scouts, and to give them more insight into Korean history and culture, a pre-tour is being arranged that will include visits to Seoul, the DMZ between South and North Korea, as well as tours of various monuments, museums, and other attractions. Scouts may also experience a more personal part of Korean life as part of the Home Hospitality programme (HoHo). Scouts will get to experience the daily life of a Korean family as an honoured guest with a host Korean family for a few days prior to the beginning of the Jamboree.

As part of their efforts in hosting the 25th World Scout Jamboree, the Jamboree organisers, in collaboration with the Korean government, are assisting with partial funding for 9 Scouts and 1 Scouter, in order to allow them to join the Scouts from South Africa on this adventure. In particular, the following costs are being waivered for Project Korea participants (As selected by SCOUTS South Africa and the Contingent Management Team):

  • The Jamboree event fee.
  • The cost of return flights to South Korea from South Africa.

The selected participants themselves had to fulfil the following requirements:

  • Have to raise R 3000.00 themselves.
  • Must have achieved their Discoverer advancement before departure.
  • Must be member of a Troop and Patrol.
  • Must be recommended by their Court of Honour and Troop Scouter.

We are striving to provide the selected Scouts with the same experience as their fellow contingent members, which would include the pre-tour, uniforms, travel bag and other associated kit. To achieve this, we need your help!

The estimated cost for the Jamboree is R 60,000 per participant. Therefore, the remaining R35,000 will need to be raised in order to complete the cost of the project for each Scout.
