Lawrence Stanton’s term of office as our National Young Leaders Representative is coming to an end in December 2023. We thank Lawrence for his tremendous efforts in taking the youth involvement portfolio forward and for always ensuring that youth voices are heard.

After a thorough interview process by the CEO, Chief Scout, and Lawrence, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Pienaar as our new National Young Leader’s Representative and therefore also as a MANCO member. While Jonathan is young, and the son of the Chief Commissioner, he is an experienced and well-respected adult volunteer in his own right. Jonathan has shown himself to be a leader among the young people not only in the Gauteng Region, but also as a team member of the National Young Leader Representatives, as a WOSM Regional Youth Representative for the Africa Region and as a WOSM Scoutfluencer.

In the current reporting structure, the National Young Leader’s Representative reports to the Chief Commissioner. However, due to the family relationship between Jonathan and the Chief Commissioner (who was not involved in this appointment in any way), the decision has been made to alter the reporting lines on this occasion, from the Chief Commissioner to the Chief Scout. We look forward to working with Jonathan to continue to grow our Young Leader’s portfolio. Jonathan’s term will take effect as from January 2024.
