Message from Gary Pienaar, Chief Commissioner
To all our Scout Volunteers,
Today marks ‘International Volunteer Day’ and on behalf of SCOUTS South Africa, I’d like to take this opportunity to express our special thanks and gratitude to each one of you – the leaders of Scouting – for being willing to ‘be the difference that makes the difference’ in our Groups, Districts, Regions and wider communities.
Your dedication and commitment helps deliver the purpose of Scouting and contributes in no small measure to ‘making the world a better place’.
As the year draws to a close, we can all look back with a sense of pride and accomplishment on a busy Scouting year. Whether it was through our regular weekly meetings, or the exciting outings, activities and events offered, or more simply by just being there for a young person in need, you have made a difference. I’m sure that the year has also been a personal growth opportunity for you too – either through making new Scouting friendships, participating in adult leader training or tackling a new Scouting role or assignment. All are part of the rich tapestry which makes Scouting one of the most influential Movements for change in our time.
To our youth members who recently completed their Matric examinations, congratulations on completing this milestone in your life’s journey. I’m sure that your efforts will be justly rewarded, as Scouts always ‘do their best’. Take the time to enjoy the moment, celebrate your achievements, and look forward to the possibilities that the new year brings.
With the holiday season upon us, let’s remember those who supported and helped us deliver on our Scouting commitments. Enjoy this special time with your family and friends. Take time out to rest and recharge.
For those who celebrate the season, a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year celebrations that lie ahead. For all those travelling during this time, stay safe. Spare a thought for those members working in the essential services through this holiday period, helping to keep the rest of us safe and able to enjoy the moment. Thank you too for your commitment and sacrifice.
May God bless you and your family abundantly. We look forward to your safe return and an awesome Scouting year in 2024!
